We believe that changing the way we produce and distribute food is fundamental to solving the world’s most pressing social and ecological problems.
Welcome to Wild Island Farm, a socially responsible agricultural business nestled in the heart of Cape Breton Island. Founded in 2023 by Daniel Dillon and Libby Stoker Lavelle, we are dedicated to cultivating fresh, organic fruits and vegetables while promoting food sustainability and security.
At Wild Island Farm, we prioritize the health of our soil and our community. Our low-till and broadforking techniques enhance soil vitality, allowing us to grow vibrant produce using methods such as season extension, intercropping, crop rotation, and heirloom seed varieties.
We invite you to visit us at our farm in Donkin, Nova Scotia, or join us every Saturday at the MultiCultural Market in Sydney from 10 AM to 2 PM. Come say hello, explore our locally grown offerings, and discover the taste of sustainable agriculture.
We pay our suppliers at least 50% of the retail value for any products we buy in, and when dealing with wholesalers, we check to make sure they pay fair prices to their growers.
Local food supports local economies. Food grown in the local community supports local jobs and encourages variety in our diets. It also requires less transportation, so it's fresher and has a smaller environmental footprint.
It is a movement I believe in with values that I respect, that connects People to an Environment of Amazing Food and Purpose.
